GLOSSOP NE...4
RAMSBOTTOM UTD...3
THE Rams missed a great opportunity to pick up all three points from a Glossop side who had won just four of their previous NWCL Division One 19 games.
One up after just two minutes when David Yorke-Robinson scored after being put clear by Russell Brierley, Ramsbottom failed to capitalise on the good start.
And poor defending allowed Elliott Prest to grab an equaliser on 15 minutes.
For the remainder of the first half United looked to get back in front but somehow failed to convert any of the half a dozen chances that came their way.
Brierley was unlucky to strike the North End crossbar and a fine left foot volley was no more than a couple of inches over the top.
Home keeper Nick Pritchard looked shaky when dealing with anything in the air, but five minutes before the break he did well to save with his feet when Brierley's strike looked certain to put Ramsbottom in front.
Four minutes into the second half Glossop took the lead in controversial manner when three players some two yards offside were allowed to continue and Prest scored his second of the afternoon.
Two minutes later the ball was played into the Ramsbottom penalty area Danny Goodall was flattened from behind, the ball finished in the back of the net with players from both sides becoming involved in a confrontation.
Glossop's Danny Wild and Ramsbottom goalkeeper Allan Fairbrother were sent off.
Ramsbottom pulled a goal back when Brierley got the final touch to Goodall's free kick and the Glossop goal was now under constant siege.
But in a rare Glossop attack Ramsbottom let in Prest who headed past deputy keeper Jamie Taylor to make it 4-2.
Within a minute Stephen Sheil got a third Ramsbottom goal but in spite of seven minutes of stoppage time, the Rams couldn't find an equaliser.
Mike Kelly's men have now lost their last two league encounters after four successive wins.
