ILIVE in Hapton and I travel all over the country and I think Burnley is one of the most anti-motorist towns in the North West, with no free parking areas.
All the land that becomes empty, even within 5-10 minutes walk of the centre, ends up with meters on it.
They want us to spend our money in the town, but do nothing to encourage the motorist to come, as you can carry more goods in a car than by hand on a bus.
Even getting to Sainsbury's has become a nightmare, due to bad planning and placement of traffic and pedestrian lights.
I now only shop at the big two supermarkets. If I want the smaller shops I go to Accrington, where it is free to park. Even Blackburn is having free parking over Christmas.
I think it is time the people boycot the town centre shops and use the ones in Nelson and Accrington. Maybe then the Burnley Chamber of Trade will put pressure on the council to do something to attract motorists -- not deter them.
This is why people use the big retail parks now, maybe Burnley Council don't know these exist.
