POLICE in Burnley have seized thousands of pounds of what they believe to be stolen jewellery, some dating back to raids four years ago.

The massive haul, from just one address in the Burnley area, was recovered in a raid last month. Detectives are asking for people who have been burgled since 1997 to cast back their minds and remember what was taken.

The raid was carried out as part of Lancashire Police Force's Operation Reassure, a scheme targeting domestic burglary. Thousands of pounds of the jewellery was found by detectives from Pennine Division on Wednesday, November 30.

DC John Ormerod of Burnley police said: "We're asking people to help us identify what we believe is stolen property. It is mainly fob watches, wristwatches and charms. We believe some may be from several years ago."

According to police, the jewellery includes dozens of gold and silver items including watches, bracelets, rings, jewellery boxes and necklaces. Among the stolen property are some distinctive pieces, which officers hope will be quickly claimed.

DC Ormerod said: "Hopefully people will think back to when they were burgled. Some of it is uncommon. So they might say: 'I remember that. It's unusual. It's mine'."

The distinctive items include an Elgin fob watch, Claddagh diamond bracelet, gold charm bracelet, clown pendant, and a gold gent's ring with an animal face on it. Anyone who can help should call DC Ormerod on 01282 425001.
