ROB Kelly's Under 17s completed an excellent week for Rovers Academy with a thumping 5-0 win over Coventry at the weekend.

Earlier in the week, some of Kelly's side had played a leading role in Rovers' 4-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.

And they picked up where they left off against the Sky Blues -- even without Tuesday night's hero Jerome Watt.

Paul Gallagher led the way with a brace and there were further goals from Jemal Johnson, Ross McKay and Joe Byron.

And Byron's goal in particular gave Academy chief Bobby Downes great pleasure -- considering he normally plays for the Under 15s.

"Joe has been around the squad for most of the season and we've been trying to give half an hour here and there because we believe he could have a bright future," said Downes.

"So to see him play and get a goal is great experience for him.

"We've always said if you're good enough, you're old enough and we'll maybe try and give him a few starts after Christmas."

However, Ian Miller's Under 19s failed to make it a win double as they crashed 2-1.

"We decided to rest one or two players after they had played in both the Youth Cup and then the reserves on Thursday night so we were a bit light up front," said Downes.

Neil Danns scored Rovers'goal but it only proved to be a consolation.
