THAT the Worsthorne with Hurstwood village policeman is no more has now been confirmed by the Pennine Division Police Authority. The village bobby has been transferred to other duties and is not being replaced.
This action was taken without consultation and the residents were not even told of the decision. They were given no opportunity to voice their opinions.
Village police officers are still in place in Deerplay, Cliviger and Briercliffe. No amount of reassurance as to cover is any substitute for the real thing. There has been a policeman in the village for over 70 years.
The system has worked well, as recent occurrences have indicated when there hasn't been one. I urge that this decision be reversed.
COUN ANTHONY LAMBERT, Ravenoak Lane, Worsthorne.
