FIREFIGHTERS managed to save a horse when it fell into an ice-covered canal.
A crew from Farnworth dragged the horse from the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal at Nob End using specialist training gear.
Sub officer Rob Gibson said: "We managed to get the horse out just as it was on the verge of hypothermia.
"The RSPCA came to treat it and we think it should be okay."
Sub officer Gibson, together with firemen Tony Hextall and Paul Edwards were responsible for rescuing the horse.
It is believed the horse belonged to someone who owns stables near the canal.
