LEIGH hoped to continue their winning run against near neighbours Wigan but were undone 10-3 by a muddy pitch with the inability to turn ascendancy into points.
Leigh started much the stronger team and were denied a try from winger Jimmy Bridge when the pass from Anthony Bentham was ruled forward.
They continued to press and were rewarded penalties which they failed to convert. This was to prove costly as Wigan took a rather fortunate 3-0 lead into the interval after the Leigh backs were ruled offside.
Wigan now had a period of dominance in the second half and were rewarded with a converted try after good work from scrum half Danny Barker.
Leigh again upped their efforts in the last quarter but their only reward was a late penalty from centre Barry Greenwood.
Hampson and Cabedo worked hard for Leigh but generally the muddy conditions got the better of both sides.
