A HEALTH campaign entitled Get the Right Treatment has been launched in Bury to ensure people know which services are available in the festive season.
Information leaflets will be distributed to GPs' surgeries and hospital waiting areas as well as to primary schools and social services departments, explaining the range of options available should people require medical attention.
The information is designed to help families make choices, particularly when mainstream services like the family doctor and dental services are reduced.
Key points of the campaign are:
To make use of NHS Direct, the 24-hour help information and advice line for help with any medical query or to find out about specific local services. The service is available on 0845 4647.
Pharmacists are qualified to give advice about everyday health problems as well as queries about prescriptions and over the counter medicines.
Keep a stock of simple remedies for common ailments at home including paracetamol and decongestants and to ensure repeat prescriptions are collected before the holiday period.
Drop in to the NHS Walk-in-Centre in Parsons Lane, Bury, for instant access to an experienced NHS nurse for health advice and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. The centre is open every day (7am to 10pm) including Bank holidays (9am to 10pm). An appointment is not necessary.
Mr Evan Boucher, acting chief executive of Bury and Rochdale Health Authority, said: "The aim of our campaign is to raise people's awareness of the range of options available. I would urge people to look out for adverts in the local press, on the council websites, and pick up the leaflet."
