ALTHOUGH a catchy title, this is somewhat a misnomer, as the Locrian Ensemble play much more than Mozart.
However, the period costumes do lend a certain atmosphere to proceedings.
The concert included well known pieces by Mozart, 'Eine Kleine Nacht Musik' and the 'Divertimento in F major', the latter piece was particularly mellifluous.
We also heard old favourites - Pachebel's 'Canon' and Bach's 'Air on a G String', but their performance of Vivaldi's 'Alla Rustica' was superb, full of joie de vivre.
Sarah Ewing, lead violinist, has recently been appointed co-leader of the Halle Orchestra.
Guest Soloist, Simon Munday, playing the piccolo trumpet, an unusual and difficult instrument, literally blew the audience away. Only recently graduating from the Royal Academy, he has been featured on Radio 3 and is in demand world-wide. Playing Telemann's 'Trumpet Concert' and Purcell's 'Sonata No 1', Simon made it look so easy and brought many different colours to this bright instrument.
Cellist and Musical Director, Justin Pearson, quickly established an amazing rapport with the audience, informing them of the television work the ensemble has been featured on, most recently Uncle Silas and Judge John Deed.
