BURNLEY striker Dimitri Papadopoulos gave three good reasons for Stan Ternent to include him in his promotion plans with a hat-trick for the reserves in a 5-2 win at Wolves last night.

Reserve team boss Ronnie Jepson said today: "Dimitri was smashing last night. To be honest he was one of the best players in a disappointing display last week but yesterday he was a little bit special.

"But I don't want to single anyone out because everyone did well, it was the perfect response to the Rotherham game when we were poor.

"It was a really good all round performance and I was really chuffed. We have played well a few times this season but if you consider the quality of the opposition, that is one of the best displays of the season."

Big-spending Wolves fielded a side that included former England international Andy Sinton, Wales international Carl Robinson, expensive signings Sean Connelly, George Ndah and Cedric Roussel as well as promising striker Adam Proudlock.

Papadopoulos's Greek compatriot, trialist Giorgios Alexopoulos, had a solid game in defence, the first real chance for the Clarets coaching staff to see him in competitive action.

Alexopoulos is a 24-year-old defender and has played in Greece for Panathinaikos, playing in the Champions' League.

A couple of years ago he was a regular in the Greek Under-21 side and in the summer of 2000 he moved to another top flight club Iraklis who finished fifth last season.

"He did okay for us," said Jepson after watching the central defender deal well with a dangerous Wolves attack.

But he was also pleased with the efforts of youngsters Andrew Waine and Joel Pilkington in the middle of the park.

"They did their job well and up front Tony Ellis led the line well," he said. "All the players deserve credit for the way the team played."

The next match for the reserves will be next Wednesday at Turf Moor when they take on Lancashire rivals Preston North End.
