LANCASTER MEP Chris Davies claims local shoppers could be fooled into buying clothes, accessories and even pet toys made using dog and cat fur.
The products -- mostly manufactured in the far east -- use as many as 12 dogs or 24 cats to put together a single piece of clothing.
Mr Davies wants the EU to enforce strict labelling requirements to prevent the use of misleading names like 'Gae-wolf' or 'Sobakie' for dog fur or 'Goyangi' and 'Katzenfelle' for cats.
He said: "I suspect many people would think twice before buying furry hats or toys for their pets if they knew they were made of dog or cat fur.
"Shoppers here and across Europe should have the right to know what is in products so that they can decide for themselves whether to buy them."
