REGARDING your 'Looking Back' feature, memories were awakened by the photograph of the old Fish Set at Blackburn railway station (LET, December 3).
As a lad, working as a 'train booker' in the Blackburn East signal box, which was opposite the Fish Set, I used to see the fish wagons come with the mail train very early in the morning.
When we had put the wagons in dock, the signalman used to send me across to the Set for a 'tanner lap up' and we used to get a big parcel of fish for the 'tanner' -- an old sixpence.
I am now in my seventies, but the memory is still bright in my mind.
F BOOTH (Mr), Bolton Road, Blackburn.
