THE cheerleaders provided the razzmatazz and the junior players turned on the style as Blackburn RUFC held its annual mini rugby tournament.

Teams from Aspull, Leigh, Fleetwood, Rochdale and Orrell joined their hosts in the competition ffrom under sevens to under 13s.

While the action on the pitch was the main focal point there was plenty going on elsewhere in what turned out to be a real family day out.

And the cheerleaders from the Zoe and Kirk Taylor Dance School made such an impression they have been invited back to cheer Blackburn first team on in the Lancashire Cup on December 16.

In the round robin event, Blackburn under 10s were unbeaten after drawing with Rochdale and beating Fleetwood.

Rochdale proved to offer stubborn resistance and match their hosts.

Stephen Matthews set up the first try for Luke McVarish to score and these were followed up by tries from Michael Mousdale and Kyle Lord.

Blackburn saved their best for the Fleetwood clash and ran out victors by six tries to one in a very competitive match.

McVarish scored two more tries before Liam Monaghan scored a great try running 30 yards.

Ben Bridson and Robert Matthews were noted as putting in very good performances.

Blackburn under 13s started with a tough test against a well organised Aspull side who proved to be too strong and the visitors ran out 297 winners.

However, they restored their pride against Leigh and both sides played some exciting rugby in a 19-19 draw.

Second row Luke Hayton showed his pace to open the scoring after a 25m run which was converted by Edward Holden.

Scott Holt cross the line and Blackburn's third try came after a thrilling run from Aaron Hunt who also kicked the conversion.

Vice chairman Elaine Ainsworth thanked all the volunteers who turned up on the day for their help.
