TELEVISION presenter So Rahman is backing Lancashire Constabulary's latest campaign to promote safer driving during the Eid celebrations, due to be celebrated by Muslims from December 15-17.

So, who presents Granada's Crime File, has thrown his weight behind the campaign which aims to put the brakes on reckless driving and speeding during the annual festival which marks the close of Ramadan.

"I hope young Asian men will take this message seriously and drive safely during Eid," said Sol.

The Lancashire force ran a similar safety campaign two years ago after complaints about a minority of young Asian men driving irresponsibly.

Now, in a joint venture with Lancashire Partnership Against Crime, the police are aiming to get the message across with a poster campaign, distributed to community centres and mosques across the county, to highlight the dangers of speeding and reckless driving.

The glossy poster contains strong safety messages as well as statistics about the deaths and injuries caused by speeding and reckless driving.

Chief Inspector Val Prince, road policing coordinator for Lancashire Constabulary, said Preston and areas of East Lancashire and Blackpool, where there had been problems in the past, were being targeted in this latest campaign.
