A 'persistent offender,' who twice got behind the wheel while banned, has been sent to custody for four months.
Burnley magistrates told Carl Priestley, 20, said to have a fixation with cars, he had failed to comply with non-custodial terms and only immediate detention on a Young Offenders' Institution was appropriate.
Priestley, of Cobden Street, Padiham, had admitted breach of a community punishment and rehabilitation order imposed for driving while disqualified and also pleaded guilty to a second disqualified driving charge and failing to surrender.
The defendant was banned from driving for two years and was resentenced after the bench revoked the community order.
The prosecution offered no evidence on a further driving while disqualified allegation, failing to stop and failing to report an accident and those charges were dismissed.
Nick Dearing, defending, said Priestley had been given an opportunity 12 months ago when he was given the community rehabilitation and punishment order instead of probably going to detention.
