SCORPIONS began at a fast pace, pinning their opponents in their own quarter, and it was no surprise when they took the lead with a Dave Tanner try as he forced his way over after shrugging off would-be tacklers.
Scorpions, while well on top, were making elementary errors when in good attacking positions. They were made to pay for their missed opportunities when Crosfields' first two ventures into their half resulted in the visitors being awarded a penalty, which they converted, and then scoring a try to take a 6-4 lead which was totally against the run of play.
But on the stroke of half-time Chris Pearson kicked a penalty to level the scores.
Scorpions increased the pace of the game after the interval and it was not long before they breached the Crosfields' defence. Luke Valente forced his way over under the posts, giving Pearson an easy conversion. Pearson then kicked a penalty to give Scorpions a 14-6 lead.
More pressure from Scorpions resulted in Simon Pritchard side stepping three opponents on his way to the line. Shortly after, prop forward Steve Woodburn crashed over from close range and, with Pearson converting both tries, the score was 26-6.
However, Scorpions relaxed and the Warrington side scored two tries, one of which came from what looked suspiciously like a forward pass. All the Scorpions defenders stopped, expecting the refereee to blow his whistle, but the try stood to make it 26-16.
Dave Tanner snuffed out any chance of a Crosfields comeback when he burst through the defence and passed to the supporting Jon Green who scored.
