HOW enjoyable it was for the fans on Saturday to see Pool's performance, not only for Simmo's superb strike but for the luxury of watching a second half with the comfort of a two-goal cushion.
Our group is delighted that Steve McMahon has brought the "Burnley Goal Machine" Andy Payton to Bloomfield Road on a month's loan, as well as signing the versatile Ian Marshall for an additional month.
Real Progress has every confidence that Macca will permanently sign three or four quality players who will make the post-Brett Blackpool team comparatively stronger overall.
Most Pool fans are assuming that all the net proceeds from Brett's transfer will be available to Steve for the three or four new players. However, a small number of fans consider some of the Ormerod proceeds will partly finance the redevelopment of the South Stand.
Real Progress would consider this a total contradiction of what we have interpreted from previous club statements, which is that the finance for the playing activities and the stadium redevelopment are two totally separate entities which must stand alone. It would be appreciated if the club would confirm this is the case. The club's recent announcement about further delays to the new stands is bad news, both in terms of lost revenue for the team and strategically for the long-term progress of the club. Our group acknowledges that "Measured Progress" is being made on and off the pitch. We also accept that we are perceived as impatient by many other supporters in relation to the club's current ambitions .
Real Progress considers that the threat of such issues as the Phoenix League surely emphasises the need for B.F.C. to be promoted to Division One, playing in a completed new stadium. Time could be running out to prevent the club from disappearing into the lower division football wilderness for good. We still have a real chance of at least making the play-offs this season.
Real Progress is not suggesting that the club compromises itself financially -- no true supporter wants that!
We merely stress that, having completed the successful "turnaround strategy" of the club financially, Karl Oyston should prudently speculate to accumulate and invest all the unexpected windfalls the club have enjoyed this season on the playing side, to maximise the potential for success.
The future could be very bright -- and tangerine!
