STOCKPORT County look set to give new striker Luke Bennett a debut against Burnley in the top versus bottom clash at Turf Moor tomorrow.

The 25-year-old was signed for £100,000 from second division Chesterfield on Thursday afternoon and he is expected to go straight into the struggling side.

Beckett scored 16 goals for Chesterfield as they won promotion from the third division last season although irregularities over his transfer cost the Spireites nine points.

The new man will make his debut alongside the Finnish international striker Shefki Kuqi.

He is the latest addition to a squad that is being rapidly overhauled by new manager Carlton Palmer who took over from the sacked Andy Kilner last month.

Palmer has been playing himself in midfield and last weekend he was alongside two other new faces, Aaron Lescott who cost £75,000 from Sheffield Wednesday and Kevin Ellison who was bought from Leicester City for £55,000.

With no suspensions to worry about, and the only first team regular injured left back Peter Clark, Palmer has a near full squad at his disposal and he knows it is time for them to start winning games.

He has set his players a survival target of taking an average of one and a half points from every game but is aware that they have to start getting something on the board as soon as possible.

When he took over his first job was to persuade skipper Mike Flynn to stay and he convinced the County legend that he intends to build his side around him. Flynn, who has been an ever present in five of his eight seasons at the club, will play alongside Leo Roget in the heart of the defence with the full backs likely to be Finn Petri Helin and Colin Woodthorpe.
