WYRE people will experience New Year's resolutions in a literal sense in January with the trial introduction of a new council cabinet that will radically change the way decisions are made.
The new cabinet at Wyre Borough Council will work in a similar way to the Goverment's cabinet and be responsible for most of the day-to-day council decisions.
It will comprise a leader and four portfolio holders -- members who are each responsible for a different area of council work.
The cabinet will operate from January to May next year on an experimental basis. It should then come into full effect on May 10.
Wyre council's chief executive, Michael Brown, said that the new system was designed to make council decision making more efficient.
"The new system is intended to speed up the decision-making process while being more open and accountable to the public," he said.
Cabinet members and their responsibilities are:
Coun Patricia Catlow: Cabinet Leader.
Coun Peter Pimbley: Responsible for resources -- including finance, land, property and IT.
Coun Keith Tibbs: Responsible for economy -- including regeneration, employment, economic development, tourism, industry/commerce development.
Coun Leonard Jolley: Responsible for social issues and policy -- including community safety, housing, sports facilities, civic halls.
Coun Peter Hawley: Responsible for the environment -- including countryside, street cleaning and rubbish collection, street lighting, sea defences.
