SHOPLIFTERS in Colne will be under the watchful eye of the law in the run up to Christmas as police step up the number of patrols working in the area.
Local beat officer Phil Davies, who has responsibility for the retail parks in the town, and Special Officer Mick Fothergill will be among those on the look out for thieves hoping to making the most of the busy festive period.
Sergeant Jon Puttock said: "There is often a seasonal rise in shoplifting particularly from the larger retail outlets in the town. To address this problem there will be increased high visibility patrols working in these areas, including the high visibility van. As an additional deterrent we will be operating a zero tolerance approach to shoplifters and will do our utmost to place those offenders arrested before the next available court with a view to seeking a remand in custody."
