HALF-A-DOZEN staff at Gaskell Textiles will lose their jobs this Christmas after current restructuring is completed but bosses hope that innovations will mean the end to redundancies.
Around 100 people are employed at the Clayton Business Park site but a slump in the market has caused problems for the company.
Ian Crowther, managing director, said: "There are a number of floor covering companies going into receivership as consumer spend is not on carpets anymore and it has become a deferred purchase.
"It will continue to be difficult but we have a number of new product innovations which we have been working on extensively that will protect jobs in the future.
"As we have said to the workforce, it is always difficult when people have to lose jobs for the long-term future of the business.
"We are going through consultation now and want to resolve the latest redundancies before Christmas out of fairness to the workers."
