A RESIDENTIAL flats complex on land formerly used for industry is set to be given the go-ahead by planners.

Members of Rossendale engineering and planning sub-committee are being recommended to approve the amended outline application for land at Bentgate, Manchester Road, Ewood Bridge.

The scheme is for five blocks containing 49 two-bedroom and 15 one bedroom flats and 96 parking spaces.

The access will be taken off Manchester Road and eight visitor parking spaces will be created on site.

Currently the site has three points of access, but the application proposes to consolidate two into one while the third will continue to serve the properties on Bent Street.

There will also be a ghost island introduced at the junction with Clod Lane and the road will be widened.

A report to tomorrow's meeting concludes: "The proposed blocks are built upon the existing mass of the industrial building currently on site and will utilise brownfield land.

"The proposal does not involve developing the Green Belt and consequently the proposal is considered acceptable."
