GREAT Harwood boss Denis Underwood goes into tonight's home clash with Prescot Cables hoping his side can take up where they finished against Kidsgrove.

Despite the defeat at the hands of a team pushing for the title, Underwood was heartened by his team's approach in the second half of the game and feels more of the same could see them prosper against Prescot.

"If we start against Prescot where we finished against Kidsgrove then I don't see why we can't get something from the game," said Underwood.

"We went into the second half two goals down, but we gave it a real go and had we taken our chances, Graham Lightbown and Simon Garner both had good opportunities, we might have got back in to the game.

"While it is frustrating to have been beaten, if we play as we did in the second half we will do fine against most teams."

Two goals inside eight minutes put Kidsgrove on their way to victory as Darren Twigg headed home their opener on 26 minutes and then Stuart Walker fired in the second from 18 yards on 34 minutes.

"Kidsgrove are a good side and they have set their stall out to win the league," said Underwood.

"But we had easily matches them for the first 20 minutes or so, but then we left a man free at a free-kick and he headed in - we should be tighter at set plays.

"Then we conceded two goals to shots from the edge of the box that took deflections when our keeper had the shots covered."

Richard Mitchell struck the third killer blow for Kidsgrove on 56 minutes, but Underwood felt that there had been plus points for the home side.

"Simon Garner came off the bench and did well and he is now pushing for a starting place," enthused Underwood.

"And Jamie Smith came on as a substitute as well for his first appearance of the season after getting injured in pre-season, so the squad is looking stronger."

There was a late minus as Great Harwood's Neil Kennedy was sent off five minutes from time, an incident that left Underwood frustrated.

"It wasn't anything much, handbags at ten paces really," he explained.

"But then our guy gets a red card and the Kidsgrove player gets a yellow when they had both done the same - that was frustrating."
