THE Mayor of Burnley, Coun Jack Alston, has been admitted to hospital after complaining of breathing difficulties.
Coun Alston was taken into Burnley General Hospital on Sunday with breathing problems after apparently contracting a bad cold.
Marilyn Kershaw, Mayor's secretary at Burnley Council, said Coun Alston had suffered from chest problems for some years and was in hospital only two months ago when he was successfully treated for a chest infection.
She said: "The mayor is receiving treatment in the critical care unit and everyone is hoping that he will make a full recovery. He is now stabilised and in a much better position than when he was admitted.
"Although he is still in the critical care unit he is said to be quite cheerful. Everyone is delighted that he is feeling a little better and that the outlook is promising."
In the meantime the Deputy Mayor, Coun Rafique Malik, is taking over the mayor's duties wherever possible.
