KEEP away from the traditional Christmas -- and have a great time.
That's the advice from the manager of O'Neill's in King William Street, Blackburn, Derbuil McAlinden, who said people with a more measured approach to Yuletide activities were actually more convivial, easy-going and relaxed.
Derbuil added: "We did a study focused on two types of people: the conformists and the casuals.
"Conformists are those who strictly organise their spare time whereas casuals are those with a more spontaneous social life.
"We found that conformists actually believe an adherence to Christmas tradition is more important than having a good time with their friends and family.
"On the other hand, casuals tend to put tradition in perspective and consequently have much more fun.
"It seems the more emphasis we place on the conventional aspects of Christmas such as family gatherings and office parties, the less social we are."
