THE secretary of the Red Rose Skaters Club, Paula Callaghan, has thanked Lancashire Evening Telegraph readers for their generous donations following an appeal.

The club, which meets at Darwen Leisure Centre, was left without music after its £350 stereo was stolen.

Mrs Callaghan appealed to readers for a new one as the club did not have sufficient funds to buy a replacement.

She said: "After the appeal, two people donated music centres and we have mixed and match them both and the sound is actually better than our old one - we're well off for music now!"

The club, which has members ranging from ages eight to 66, meets on Saturday afternoons.

New members are always welcome and classes cost £2.50 for two to three hours' skating.

Mrs Callaghan added: "We provide a safe environment as well as tuition.

"If people receive skates for Christmas, it would be an ideal place to learn in safety."
