AFTER the terrifying experience my father and I were subjected to recently in the alleged 'road improvements' at the top end of Darwen Street, Blackburn, might I suggest that a new test be introduced for car drivers -- a psychiatric one to ascertain whether they are stable enough to get behind the wheel?

After the ordeal we were put through by two thugs while stuck in this nightmare chaos on a recent Saturday afternoon, I think such a test is badly needed and quickly before these and others like them kill or disable someone.

The driver and passenger of a blue estate car -- not surprisingly two young men (manners having gone completely out of the window with most of the current generation) -- deliberately tried to force their way into the long line of traffic already built up because of congestion.

These twits tried to 'muscle' their way -- deliberately -- in front of my father's car. At the time, we were on the way to visit my mother in hospital, recovering from a serious operation.

Because they could not be bothered to wait like everyone else stuck in the traffic they then became aggressive, threatening my father, who is disabled, with various death threats, absolutely foul language and so on.

They then proceeded to incite the driver of another car -- one on a mobile phone, not even watching where he was driving and almost about to collide with our car and again trying to force his way into the traffic -- who also began threatening my father and I with actual bodily harm etc.

I wanted to call the police, but my father did not want any trouble as we were on the way to the hospital and my mother might become ill with worry if we didn't turn up on time.

What is wrong with people in general these days? Clearly, there is something fundamentally wrong when yobs can behave like this. My father was in fear for his life because of these immature cowards.

I would like to know why there are no police monitoring this traffic situation. It's crying out to be.

As a result of this incident, my father will no longer drive into the middle of Blackburn.
