FORGET the "Twelve Days of Christmas" - what matters to Clarets fans are the "Twelve Points of Christmas".

Starting with the visit of Millwall on Saturday, the table-toppers have two games at home and two away as they aim to keep up their relentless pace at the top of the table.

The fans have already caught the festive mood with their memorable rendition of "Dingle Bells" at Deepdale the other weekend.

And with their beloved Clarets four points clear at the top of the table it is fair to assume they think that all their Christmases have come at once.

Santa Claus has certainly been busy in the town of late because he has been snapping up thousands of the club's "When We Were Kings - Burnley in Europe" video to place in stockings around the town in the small hours of Christmas Day.

That splendid piece of work records the glory days of the 1960s in black and white but with every passing week the hopes are growing that a colour video will be on the Christmas list next season.

How does "Now We Are Kings Again - Burnley in the Premier League" sound as a working title?

Of course it is far too early to even buy, never mind crack open, the bubbly but if the fans who have suffered so much in recent years can't get a little bit excited, there is something very wrong.

No matter what happens against Millwall at the weekend, Burnley will be the shining star sitting atop the first division Christmas tree.

New Year is just around the corner and Burnley will have to show plenty of resolve if they are to keep the chasing pack at bay.

The big guns at Maine Road and Molineux are hot on their heels but they are still playing Clarets catch up.

And if the manner of recent successes has been less than impressive, the fact that they have kept winning is enough reason for fans to hope that this time next year they will be going to somewhere like Elland Road on Boxing Day, not Millmoor.

It is some time since the Clarets have fired on all cylinders but the run of victories has not slowed. Imagine what will happen when they finally do get back to their best?

But the goals are still flying in with the club only two away from the total for the whole of last season and it is a sign of the times that the latest 3-2 victory was the sixth by that margin this campaign.

And to think, Stan Ternent has a reputation of being Mr One-Nil.

This is the final Turf Talk before December 25 so I wish all Clarets fans a very Happy Christmas. I just know it will be!
