Hindsford reach last four HINDSFORD became the final qualifiers for the Goldline Trophy semi-finals last night beating Atherton Town 2-1 in an often bad tempered game at Crilly Park.

Hindsford got off to a flying start when Darren Briggs opened the scoring in the sixth minute but his moment of glory was muted shortly before half-time when his brother Craig was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

In between times, a seemingly complacent Town were reduced to ten men as Tony Walker lasted just eight minutes before being dismissed for violent conduct.

Atherton, however, managed to overcome their one man disadvantage to square the game on 35 minutes when Barry Atkins equalised but the hero turned villain in the second half when he joined Walker in the early bath after collecting a second caution.

With two men short Town could not manage to hold out for extra time and Hindsford clinched their win after goalkeeper Gary Osbourne's blunder gifted Hindsford the winner.

Hindsford now join Charnock Richard, Prestwich Heys and Atherton Collieries in the hat for the semi-final draw.
