TWO new pictures of a Todmorden man police want to talk to about an infamous child murder have been released by police.
Detectives investigating the murder of 11-year-old Lesley Molseed have launched an international search for 56-year-old Raymond Hewlett who lived in Dineley Avenue, Todmorden, at the time of the murder in 1975 when Lesley's body was found on the moors above Ripponden.
The first picture of Hewlett is one used as a passport picture in 1995 in Milan. The second was taken in Forres, northern Scotland in October, 1997 showing Hewlett an his then girlfriend, 25-year-old German national, Marianne Schumucker.
She was pregnant at the time and police believe it is possible the two are still together possibly with a child.
Hewlett was one of the people identified in the News of the World paedophile name and shame campaign on Sunday saying he had convictions for kidnap, rape and assault on girls.
Victim Lesley Molseed was stabbed 12 times and also sexually assaulted. Tax clerk Stefan Kiszko was convicted of the crime and spent 16 years in jail before he was cleared on DNA evidence.
He died from a heart attack a short time after his release.
Hewlett is one of a number of people police want to interview. despite extensive inquiries he has not been found. His details have been sent to Interpol.
Det Chief Supt Max McLean, the officer leading the investigation, said: "We know that Raymond Hewlett leads a nomadic life. He often stays in communes and bed and breakfasts for short periods of time before moving on.
"We also know that he has travelled widely throughout Europe. We know he was in Italy in 1995, in Scotland in 1997 and that he was intending to travel to Italy again in 1997.
"This case has never been closed. An incident room is based at Halifax police station and we have a list of suspects we are pursuing, Hewlett is one of those suspects."
Hewlett is described as being of medium build, 5ft 8in tall, with green/blue eyes and brown hair thinning and receding at the front.
He is also wanted for questioning in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault in Manchester in 1975.
Anyone with information is asked to ring the incident room on 01422 337048.
