BURNLEY Football Club is urging fans to get behind a supporter led campaign for fans to "Roll up for the reserves!"
The Clarets second string has been providing sparkling entertainment this season, not least in last week's 5-2 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers and a fans' web-site has launched a campaign to increase attendances at home games.
This has subsequently been backed by everyone at the club who are hoping to generate a great atmosphere for tonight's clash with Lancashire rivals Preston North End.
Both clubs are going well in the Avon Insurance League but gates at Turf Moor have been quite low.
Those behind today's "Roll up" campaign are hoping that they will be able to attract a gate of around 1000, several hundred more than the season's average.
Tony Scholes, who is a member of the Clarets Independent Supporters' Association, explained: "I believe it is time to try and increase the attendances at reserve team games.
"We have called it "Roll up for the Reserves" and although we know it will be a tall order to get to 1000, anything more than the usual 150 or so will be a boost.
"The reserves are playing ever so well this season and deserve more support than they are getting. The campaign is fully backed by the club and they are publicising it."
Clarets boss Stan Ternent recently urged fans to get along to see the reserves so that they can watch the development of talented young players at the club and a number of Terry Pashley's youth team squad have certainly caught the eye throughout the season.
And the small band of Clarets fans who travelled to RAF Cosford to watch the game against Wolves last week returned north waxing lyrical about the hat-trick scored by Greece Under-21 international Dimitri Papdopoulos.
Others who have impressed at this level have been winger Brad Maylett, defender John Williamson and Nik Michopoulos's understudy Luigi Cennamo.
And there is the added attraction of catching a first glimpse of potential signings, as with the trial for Greek defender Giorgios Alexopoulos last week. Season ticket holders and junior members all get free admission to the games and it is just £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions otherwise.
