NEWLY graduated artists who are creating artwork for Bacup are getting busy with their projects.

Lorraine Berry, from Chorley, is appealing for people to donate photographs which will be used to create a hardback book to be donated to Bacup library.

Lorraine 2enjoys producing artwork that responds to a specific location and she is concerned with people and memory and a sense of individual identity.

As an outsider to the town, she has found Bacup to have a strong sense of community but she needs the help of the local people to provide photographs of people, families and social events.

The photographs will also be part of the research for a second more technical piece to be exhibited next year when subtle images will appear and disappear in windows around the town centre.

Malcolm Halliwell, from Burnley, is also making temporary artwork for Bacup focusing on the River Irwell which flows under the town.

He will be salvaging debris including shopping trolleys, children's toys, bicycle parts and whatever he finds to make a sculpture to travel an over-ground route through the town.

The finished piece will be humorous but will also draw attention to ecological issues.

From the New Year he will be in the town on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
