TWO members of Blackburn Rovers staff have been questioned by police over an alleged sex offence.

The men, who have not been named, were quizzed after attending Blackburn police station voluntarily following the allegation.

The alleged incident, believed to have involved a woman, is said to have taken place at Blackburn Rovers' training complex at Brockhall Village off the A59 yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Hartley said: "Police were contacted on Tuesday when an allegation of a serious sexual nature was made relating to two males. This incident is alleged to have taken place at the Brockhall Village Complex. A full police investigation is underway."

The two men were not arrested but interviewed by detectives at Blackburn Police Station and were later released without charge.

Rovers chief executive John Williams today confirmed that the two men were staff. The club's Christmas party was held at Ewood Park yesterday but Mr Williams added: "All I will say is the incident in question wasn't related to the Christmas party. The individuals concerned were released last night without charge.

"The police are not naming the individuals in question and I don't want to put pressure on any sector of the club by doing so.

"These are serious allegations and the fact they have not been charged is good news for the club.

"We will have a look at the situation when the full story has emerged.

"It's all happened so quickly, we don't know the full facts yet."
