DIMITRI Papadopoulos bagged a brace at Turf Moor last night for the Clarets reserves but manager Ronnie Jepson admitted: "He was upset he did not get another hat-trick."

The Greece Under-21 striker had scored three against Wolves last week and having given his side a 2-1 lead against Preston North End he missed a great chance to repeat the feat.

"It was nice for him to get another two but he was disappointed," said Jepson. "But if he keeps getting in there, creating chances, he will keep getting goals."

Burnley may have had a couple of trialists in action in the 2-2 draw but it was two home grown youngsters that caught manager Ronnie Jepson's eye.

Greek centre half Giorgios Alexopoulos and Canadian left back Rick Titus had some good moments but it remains to be seen whether manager Stan Ternent pursues his interest in either player.

But for Jepson the midfield pair of Joel Pilkington and Andrew Waine were the stars on the night. "They were our best two players and they kept the tempo up all night," he said.

"In the first half the two teams cancelled each other out and we needed a bit more devilment. The game opened up after that and we could have had four or five goals but we will settle for a point."

Jepson was delighted by the turn-out of almost 700 fans for the match as supporters responded to calls to roll up for the reserves.

"It was a big crowd, they got behind us and it was nice for the young lads," he said. "They definitely noticed it and it was a good experience for them.

"In fact it was good for everybody because it is nice for the opposing team to play in front of a big crowd and a chance for the fans to see young players coming through.

"Maybe in a few years time they will be able to say that they remember seeing first teamers starting out in the reserves."
