MARI Thompson (Letters, Dec 17) says she never had to go to the bureau de change to spend English money over the border in Scotland. I spent 12 years working between England and Scotland and had no problems with either English or Scottish banknotes. But if Mrs Thompson was ever refused purchase of something in a Scottish store with an English note, she could not do anything about it. She could argue all she wanted but it would be to no avail, and that's a fact.
