A MOTORIST was killed today and five injured in a smash on the M6.
Police said two heavy goods vehicles and "a number of cars" were involved in the incident near Junction 28 northbound.
Emergency crews were called at around 6.45am and firefighters freed five people from the wreckage using specialist cutting equipment.
Paramedics ferried the injured to the Royal Preston Hospital and a doctor administered first aid at the scene.
The extent of the injuries has yet to be established.
Police have not released the name of driver who was killed. The body was taken to Chorley.
Traffic came to standstill following the accident with police closing the motorway at junction 28 northbound.
Tailbacks stretched to Junction 29 at Walton-le-Dale.
