DRIVERS in East Lancashire are being urged to learn from the Selby rail crash and not get behind the wheel when tired.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) issued the warning in time for the festive season when many people travel to see friends and relatives.

Kevin Clinto, RoSPA's head of road safety, said: "Ten people died at Selby because a driver was too sleepy to be on the road.

"Thousands will be driving on long journeys in the next fortnight and it is important they are honest with themselves about their fitness to drive.

"It is vital that they do not set out when tired and, if they start to feel sleepy while driving, they should stop and take a break."
