PEOPLE in East Lancashire will still be able to see the light despite being hit by powercuts.
United Utilities is investing £2.65m into reducing disruptions caused by power blackouts. Both Blackburn and Burnley are set to benefit from the installation of mid-point circuit breakers on electricity networks, which will reduce the number of customers affected by faults.
The company said the impact of the fault is limited to properties on one side of the fault only -- which could be up to 50 per cent.
Work began in September and all areas set to benefit from the system should be up and running by the spring.
Paul Marshall, United Utilities electricity asset performance manager, said: "We are concentrating on improving service to customers with high rates of disruption.
"Each year this programme alone should prevent 101,000 customer interruptions and 202,000 lost hours of supply."
Other areas set to benefit include Chorley, Leyland, Longridge and Bamber Bridge.
