A MAN who died after an attempted break-in at his flat was already suffering from heart problems, police revealed today.
Trevor Whitehead, 61, collapsed and died from a heart attack following the attempted burglary at his flat in Blackburn Road, Accrington, on Wednesday.
Police confirmed the results of a post-mortem examination showed the cause of death and said Mr Ryan was known to be taking medication for a weak heart at the time of his death.
Yesterday the Lancashire Evening Telegraph revealed Mr Whitehead was terrified to leave his house after dark after groups of teenagers threw stones and bricks at his back door.
Mr Whitehead, whose ex-wife and son still live in Accrington, had called police after disturbing someone trying to break into the flat through the back door just before midnight.
Police called at the flat and spoke to Mr Whitehead before searching the area and arresting a man.
However, when they returned to speak to Mr Whitehead again they discovered his body inside the flat.
A 22-year-old man appeared before Hyndburn magistrates yesterday charged with attempted burglary.
Ryan Rosthorne, of Howard Close, Accrington, was remanded in custody until next Friday.
