RESIDENTS are being warned to stay safe from fires over the Christmas period. Last December there were 227 accidental domestic fires at homes in the Greater Manchester area including Bolton.
Most importantly, they are being advised to make sure their homes are fitted with a smoke alarm and that the batteries are working.
Residents should make sure candles are on an appropriate stand where they cannot be knocked over, matches and lighters are kept out of reach of children, and plugs, ashtrays and furniture have been checked before going to bed.
Residents are also being warned to ensure fairy lights meet British Safety standards, are not left on overnight and not to spray Christmas trees with flammable products.
