HAVING maintained their four point lead at the top of the first division with a 0-0 draw against Millwall the Clarets are ready for the Boxing Day clash at Rotherham.

But having failed to beat the Lions they will be hoping that they can find the knockout blow.

"It is going to be another tough match in what should be a good atmosphere," said manager Stan Ternent.

"Rotherham came up with Millwall last season and they have also done extremely well. They will be looking forward to playing us because we are top of the league.

"But if we can maintain our level of performance from Saturday there is no reason why we can't stay up there. If Rotherham do manage to beat us then they will have had a good day."

Saturday's game was filled with frustration for the Clarets boss who saw his side make and then miss enough chances to have beaten Millwall with something to spare.

But a tenth successive game without defeat means the Burnley bandwagon rolls on ahead of the Boxing Day clash at Millmoor.

"We passed the ball really well against Millwall and our ball retention was very good," said Ternent. "I also thought we had a good shape and the balance of the side was right."

The manager has not set any targets for points over the Christmas period but he was able to joke: "We have got 50 points now so we should be safe from relegation.

"Now we have to try and get enough to get into the play-offs and if we can get there with a few games left, well we will push on again."

Wolves moved into second place after earning a draw at Watford as Manchester City's game at Crewe was iced off.

That means that the Clarets are certain to be top of the table when they head to Maine Road for the summit meeting with Manchester City on Saturday.

But Ternent is not looking any further ahead that the Rotherham game as he looks to record a double against the men from Millmoor and a side that will feature two ex-Clarets, Alan Lee and John Mullin.

Lee faced Burnley at Turf Moor in September when Ian Moore got the opening goal against the side managed by his father Ronnie while Mullin made the move across the Pennines a few weeks later.

With the Millwall game being the first in a run of four in 11 days, Ternent was happy to report no fresh injury problems ahead of the Boxing Day game although he admitted that the versatile Graham Branch is unlikely to be available for selection against the Millers having been ruled out of Saturday's game with injury.

"He strained his hamstring in training on Tuesday and we are not quite sure how bad it will be," he said.

"It does not seem to be that bad but a hamstring injury normally takes about three weeks to heal. We will just have to be a bit careful."

Rotherham earned a battling point in the South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United on Saturday, coming back from 2-0 down to level and showing again that they have started to adapt well to life in the first division.

Millwall's dogged defence illustrated the fact that teams are delighted to take any points off Burnley they can and so a tough test is guaranteed.

But with an unbeaten run into double figures, Rotherham will know they face a team high on confidence and self belief, not to mention as high as you can be in the table.
