THE Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award was launched across the United Kingdom in April 2000.
It aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by secondary school students to their schools and communities.
The award is given to students who are nominated by their schools for:
Improving the life of others, especially the more vulnerable members of society
Enhancing the school or community in which the young people live
Showing exemplary progress in personal development, especially in adverse circumstances
Each secondary school in the United Kingdom can annually nominate one student or group of students for an award.
Since the scheme was set up last year, more than 1,900 pupils from 750 schools - including many in East Lancashire - have received Diana awards.
