A 21-year-old woman died yesterday after her car skidded on a long-left hand bend into another vehicle.
Lucy Eleanor McKeown, of Tinklers Road, Chorley, was driving towards Blackburn on the A674 at Withnell, when she lost control of her Ford Fiesta at around 8pm.
The driver's side of her vehicle hit the front of an MG Montego, driven by Kevin Nelson, 45, of Higher Walton, near Preston. Mr Nelson was taken to Chorley Hospital with minor injuries.
Miss McKeown was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
Two vehicles from Chorley ambulance attended the scene and paramedics administered first aid.
Fire crews also attended.
The accident happened near to the Hoghton Arms. The road was closed from the junction near Bury Lane down to the roundabout near the Hoghton Arms.
Accident investigation officers from Chorley closed off the road for three hours while investigations took place. Police said the road conditions were icy although have not said what caused the accident. Inquiries are still ongoing.
