POLICE in Preston have warned drink drivers they will be targeting them over the festive season.
Figures released recently reveal that drink drive arrests in the first 10 days of December reached two thirds of the number of arrests made in the whole of December last year.
Last year 30 people were arrested in Preston during December, 10 of those over a period of five days between December 18 and 22, some of whom were driving to work the day after the office Christmas party. In the first 10 days of this month 20 motorists have been arrested for drink driving.
This year roadside checkpoints will be used throughout Preston in addition to a dedicated drink drive enforcement vehicle.
Officers are also using information from the Crimestoppers Drink Link scheme, and local knowledge to target offenders and patrol known drink drive haunts.
Anyone with information on people drinking and driving can contact Preston police on 01772 203203 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
