INTERNATIONAL jazz vocalist Ian Shaw and saxophonist Mark Lockheart took traditional Christmas carols to new heights.
Backed by a 50-strong gospel choir, baritone-tenor Ian opened the second half of the concert with a joyous hand-clapping church tune.
And -- when the tempo slowed -- their soulful jazz interpretation of 'In the Bleak Mid Winter' sent shivers down your spine.
Directed by Pete Churchill, a tight rhythm section knitted guest soloists and gospel choir together.
Earlier tenor and soprano sax player Mark shared the spotlight with 40-piece Blackburn-based community jazz orchestra Jam Factory, under musical director Steve Berry.
Hours of rehearsals had gone into the concert, which was warmly received by friends and family in the packed theatre.
