HOME Secretary David Blunkett has launched a search for people to take part in the Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay which will go through Blackburn and Chorley.
Mr Blunkett joined Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport Tessa Jowel, in urging communities across the UK to nominate their friends, family and work colleagues today to be part of next year's historic 50-day UK leg of The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay.
"This is going to be one of the biggest community celebrations ever held in the UK, so everyone should get involved," Mr Blunkett said in a special message from his home today.
"People across the UK should be able to look back and say: 'I took part, I was there, I was involved in The Relay,' " he added.
With the 4 January 2002 deadline for nominations only a week away, Mr Blunkett urged everybody to use the Christmas holiday period to nominate people "who have made a difference to our lives," for Relay positions.
Anyone interested can obtain a form which can be downloaded from the Commonwealth Games website at www.commonwealthgam
