IN response to Mr Jefferson's letter (Dec 14) about the cycle lanes on Brandlesholme Road, Bury, could I suggest he organises a rally of all the cyclists likely to use the proposed lanes because in 37 years of travelling along this road I have yet to see a cyclist!
There is already little enough room for traffic so it would help if the excessively wide pavement outside the shops were reduced by five feet to allow cars to park off-road. Also, prosecutions should be brought against drivers who park half on the pavement in the double yellow lines area, or when parking opposite the centre hatched lines.
Regarding Bass Lane the obvious answer, so apparent to everyone except the highways committee, is to make Bass Lane one-way and make Rowlands Road suitable for traffic travelling in the opposite direction. This simple solution would eliminate all "passing" problems completely.
