I READ Inspector Sargeson's article ("Peel Round", Bury Times, Dec 14) with great interest but I can not believe that he described speed cameras as being "on the approach to traffic light junctions" when they are 350 yards away.
I would say that driving too close to the vehicle in front and not paying attention to other traffic are the major causes of collisions, not simply speed, as suggested by Insp. Sargeson.
It is ridiculous that a dual carriageway, built specifically to carry traffic around the town, has had a speed limit of 30mph imposed on it.
It is a pity also that GMP do not receive money from fines; perhaps if they did they would do something about the increasing number of motorists who drive around in good weather conditions with their fog lights on. It is an offence.
Road Vehicle Lighting regulations 1989, number 27, states: "You must not use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced". The maximum penalty is £2,500 and 3-9 penalty points.
