ANYONE who wants lighten the load of festive excesses can jump into the icy waters of a moorland lake.
The annual Lee Dam New Year swim, in Todmorden, usually attracts up to fifty brave souls for the chilly dip, supported by a large crowd of people on the banks of the dam.
It is organised by Todmorden Swimming Club and this year money raised will be split between the club and St John Ambulance.
It will take place at Lee Dam, Lumbutts, Todmorden, on Sunday, January 6.
Swimmers should meet at the nearby Top Brink pub at 1.30pm for a 2pm start. After the event hot soup will be available.
Those taking race race to recover wooden cups thrown into the water. Trophies are presented to the winners of the men's and women's races and also for the best fancy dress.
