THERE will be no New Year holiday let-up in the fight against drug dealers, police in Burnley have promised.
The latest arrests were at a house in Mark Street, off Briercliffe Road, in a raid which was the direct result of information passed to police from the community.
It was the most recent carried out under the Burnley Residents Against Drugs initiative, now part of the countywide Operation Reassure.
Two people were arrested and quantities of suspect substances seized.
A considerable amount of other property was taken from the house, some thought to be from burglaries committed in Burnley.
A man and woman from the address were arrested and taken to the police station.
They were later released on police bail pending forensic examination of some items found in their possession.
Insp John Clucas said: "The buying, selling and use of drugs in homes in residential areas and the crime it attracts will not be tolerated.
"We are determined to reassure the residents of Burnley that we will act on good quality information, find out who the suppliers are and bring them before the courts."
He appealed to the local community for their continued support in the fight against drugs. He said: "I would urge anyone with any information about any crime, but particularly drugs-related crime, to contact local police by telephoning Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
"The clear message I want to get across is that we will continue to disrupt drug users and dealers and will be keeping the pressure on them, even if it means executing warrants over the New Year holiday."
